Rumors claimed Ryan Reynolds and Robert Downey Jr. clashed on the set of Avengers: Doomsday. It is now confirmed that the actors were not feuding, and there is “zero bad blood” between the two Marvel stars.
The rumor began after outlets including The Express Tribune and The Times of India cited Cosmic Book News and John Rocha’s podcast The Hot Mic, which claimed that a joke on the set of an upcoming Marvel movie – presumed to be Avengers: Doomsday – sparked tension between two actors.
Social media users then speculated that the alleged conflict involved Reynolds, 48, and Downey Jr., 60. Downey Jr. is filming Doomsday as Doctor Doom instead of reprising Iron Man, but Marvel has yet to confirm Reynolds’ return as Deadpool.
On an episode of The Truth, Rocha also clarified that he saw articles spreading “like crazy” with false speculation and confirmed, “Neither side of it was RDJ or Ryan Reynolds.”
The two actors previously exchanged playful barbs in 2019 while competing in Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO Superhero Fantasy Football League. After Downey Jr. teased Reynolds with a video saying, “Eat me,” Reynolds fired back with a clip of himself eating a cookie printed with Downey Jr.’s face.
Avengers and MCU
Marvel Studios has confirmed that Avengers: Doomsday (Dec. 18, 2026) will precede Avengers: Secret Wars (Dec. 17, 2027). The ensemble cast includes characters from the X-Men, Thunderbolts (2025), and the new Fantastic Four, along with Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, and Simu Liu.
Reynolds, whose Deadpool franchise officially merged with the MCU under Disney in 2024 with Deadpool & Wolverine, said that year he would love to make a sequel but joked, “It just sort of swallows my life whole.”
