The star who received an honorary oscar, not just for one particular movie but for all his accomplishments and contribution in the entertainment industry has been left concerned by a growing issue in the Hollywood filmmaking industry. Jackie Chan, believes that the Hollywood industry is shifting their attention from making art to making more and more profit compromising on other factors.
Attending the Locarno Pro Awards, Jackie Chan shared his take on the matter during a Q&A session. The veteran actor of 71 shared how he feels the old charm and authenticity is lacking in the movies of today’s generation. Chan stated, “I think the old movies are better than today.”
Jackie Chan Expresses His Discontent With Filmmaking Industry’s Money-Making Approach
While having the conversation with Locarno head Giona Nazzaro, he further shared the reason behind his thought. Hinting at how Chan feels the industry is getting more and more obsessed with money, he added, “Right now, a lot of big studios, they’re not filmmakers, they’re business guys. They invest 40 million and think, ‘How can I get it back?’ And you can’t go over. It’s very difficult to make a good movie now.”
Discussing films, acting, and the art of filmmaking Chan shared tid-bits from his legendary career. The Karate Kid star shared how he learnt acting, direction, stunt-direction, and even sound in the film sets. And proudly sharing about his achievements, Chan added, “In all of Asia, only two directors can do everything: the writing, directing, acting, stunt coordinating, stunt fighting, and editing. Only two, one is Sammo Hung, the second one is Jackie Chan”
Sharing more about how he executed his stunt skills Jackie Chan added how after a certain point it turned out to be tough for him. He added, “I cannot do this forever. It’s just so dangerous.” Chan recalled thinking how wherever he went he was asked to perform some kind of a stunt. He jokingly added, “What should I do? I should learn how to sing. Then I started trying to learn how to sing.”
