What Happened to Sophie Cunningham? Find Out as Pic of WNBA Star’s Injury Goes Viral

The Indiana Fever squared off against the Connecticut Sun in their recent game. And while it was an end-to-end action, the Fever did manage to come out on top. Owing to Kelsey Mitchell’s incredible 38-point game, the Fever triumphed 99-93. Unfortunately, it all came at a terrible cost. 

On one hand, the Indiana side is already reeling with significant injuries. With the mainstay of their team, Caitlin Clark out, the last thing they wanted is to incur yet another injury. But that is exactly what happened as Sophie Cunningham suffered what looks to be a terrible leg injury. 

What Happened To Sophie Cunningham?

It all happened during the very first half of the game. Soon after the game got underway, Cunningham got involved in a hard clash with the Sun’s forward, Bria Hartley. Now, Cunningham is known to be a pretty aggressive and a strong athlete. But the impact of the clash was so much that even the 28-year-old went down immediately. 

Playing for only ten minutes, Cunningham could not contribute much to the game. Writhing in pain, the 28-year-old was promptly attended by medical professionals. After initial treatment, Cunningham was helped off the court into the locker room. And soon after, came the dreaded announcement. 

“Injury Update: Sophie Cunningham (right knee) will not return to today’s game at Connecticut,” the Fever announced.

Now with Cunningham out, her injury status has still not been updated. It now remains to be seen how things pan out and how serious her injury is at the moment. But this incident has surely sent the Fever fans into a frenzy. The team is already suffering with Clark on the sidelines. Now, with Cunningham’s injury looking pretty bad, it remains to be seen how Fever breaks free in the coming days.
