The first trailer for Edgar Wright’s highly anticipated film The Running Man (2025) has been released. The movie stars Glen Powell as Ben Richards, a 35-year-old father desperate to save his child, who is facing a medical crisis. Blacklisted from employment and running out of options, Ben seizes a risky chance to join a deadly reality show called The Running Man.

Dan Killian (played by Josh Brolin) is a producer on the show who calls it “the biggest show in the country.” The rules? Contestants – known as “Runners” – must survive for 30 days while being hunted by the entire nation.

Is Edgar Wright’s The Running Man Based on a Stephen King Novel?

Yes. The 2025 film is a new adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 dystopian novel The Running Man, originally published under his pseudonym Richard Bachman. The story was first brought to the screen in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role. That version also starred Maria Conchita Alonso, Yaphet Kotto, Jim Brown, Jesse Ventura, and Richard Dawson.

Powell told People that Schwarzenegger has fully endorsed the reboot. “Arnold gave us his full blessing,” he said. “And we get to give Arnold a very specific fun gift from the movie in a couple of weeks here. So I’m very excited to see him.”

Powell filmed action scenes in London last November, dressed in casual attire and sneakers. In character as protagonist Ben Richards, he ran through the streets, seemingly evading capture.
