Just when fans thought they were finally getting a full look at Resident Evil 9, Capcom flipped the script. The crowd was ready, the stage was set. And speculation had been bubbling for weeks. But instead of the explosive trailer that everyone was expecting, Capcom dropped a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it tease that barely scratched the surface. And it sent the internet into a frenzy.
As the lights dimmed at Summer Game Fest 2025, anticipation reached its peak. Then came a short cinematic flash of Racoon City. A nod to the series’ roots, with a haunting rendition of “Happy Birthday” echoing in the background. The voice was unmistakable. Lady Dimitrescu’s. But that was it. No gameplay. No hints about the story. No glimpse of returning hero Leon Kennedy or the mysterious new lead. Just a slick nod to Resident Evil’s upcoming 30th anniversary, and nothing more.
Capcom Teases Fans with Raccoon City Clip and No Real Reveal
The real kicker came moments later. Capcom’s executive producer Jun Takeuchi appeared on screen. Not to reveal a trailer, but to thank fans and issue a familiar plea: patience. The game isn’t ready, he said. Adding that they’ll just have to wait “a blink of an eye more.” For fans who’ve been waiting nearly a year since the initial tease back in July 2024, the words stung.

It was a bold, some might say infuriating move. Especially after industry insiders hinted a proper trailer was locked and loaded. Instead, Capcom’s only concrete announcement was a Resident Evil franchise sale. Well, that might be exciting for the newcomers. But it did little to satisfy the loyal fanbase hungry for new content.
Now, with a release window officially set for February 2026, the countdown has truly begun. But Capcom’s sneaky bait-and-switch has lit a fire under fans, raising expectations even higher. All eyes remain on the publisher to finally deliver the long-awaited reveal. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
