Means is a former surgeon turned wellness entrepreneur. She has no government experience but is closely tied to Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. She helped advise his short-lived 2024 presidential campaign. Her brother, Calley Means, was also an advisor and is now a White House adviser.

Both Means siblings are strong voices in Trump’s health platform. They appear frequently on conservative outlets like podcasts with Tucker Carlson and Joe Rogan. Meanwhile, Dr. Nesheiwat, the previous nominee, withdrew the nomination. Reports raised questions about her credentials and a malpractice case. Trump allies, including activist Laura Loomer, criticized her publicly.

Dr. Means became a leading figure in the MAHA movement over the past year. She and her brother co-wrote the book Good Energy. In it, they criticize the pharmaceutical and food industries. Means writes about how she grew frustrated with traditional medicine. She says it failed to address key causes of chronic illness, like poor diet and lack of exercise.

Means studied at Stanford Medical School. She began a surgical residency at Oregon Health & Science University but left before finishing. Later, she started a functional medicine clinic. She also founded a company called Levels. It sells continuous glucose monitors and a blood sugar tracking app. Her website promotes supplements and health products.

Means has voiced concerns about vaccines and the current immunization schedule. She has also accused the FDA of corruption. In 2023, she spoke at a roundtable on health and nutrition hosted by Senator Ron Johnson. Secretary Kennedy and FDA critic Dr. Marty Makary also attended. The event aligned with Trump’s MAHA agenda.
