Miley Cyrus insists she wasn’t the one lighting up on the Hannah Montana set. On the latest episode of the Sorry We’re Cyrus podcast, her mom, Tish Cyrus, asked her to recall a “core memory” from her Disney Channel days that still makes her laugh.
“Dad smoking pot and everyone blaming me for it,” Miley replied, referencing her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who also played her on-screen dad. “It’s hilarious. He wasn’t even sharing because Tish wasn’t toking yet.”
Tish admitted she didn’t believe reports at the time that Billy Ray had been smoking on set and instead pointed fingers elsewhere.
“They called me saying B-Ray was smoking pot, and I said, ‘Absolutely not. He’d never do that. It’s Mitchel Musso,'” Tish said, laughing.
Miley didn’t let Musso off the hook. “Well, it was Mitchel Musso,” she added. “It was both.”

Musso, who played Oliver Oken, denies the claim about the weed on the Hannah Montana set. “Honestly, this made me laugh,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “That’s not how I remember it… but I’ve got plenty of stories from those years that might be worth a conversation.”
He added with a wink, “If we’re revisiting Hannah Montana history — just say the word. Receipts. All love to Miley and the fam… even when the rewrites get this creative.”
Miley has previously acknowledged experimenting with drugs during her Disney years. On My Next Guest Needs No Introduction in 2024, she told David Letterman, “I hadn’t quite left the show, but I had started experiencing life… I had drank, I smoked some pot.”
In an interview with the Every Single Album podcast, Miley admitted that the “biggest cost” during that time wasn’t music or production. It was her illicit drug expenses. To keep her accountant in the dark, Miley cleverly labeled these purchases as extravagant clothing items.
