Kelly Osbourne spoke about the disproportionate criticism she has faced regarding her weight compared to her past struggles with addiction. Speaking at the Beacher Vitality’s Happy & Healthy Summit in Los Angeles, Osbourne highlighted society’s fat-phobic tendencies, noting that despite her battles with substance abuse, the harshest judgment she received was related to her body image.
“We live in a fat-phobic world,” she said. “I have been a drug addict, an alcoholic…I’ve been a complete mess, disrespectful to people, horrible – but I got more shit for being fat than I did for anything else. It’s insane.”
Kelly Osbourne continued recalled receiving unsolicited comments suggesting she would be “the total package” if she lost weight, emphasizing that her weight-loss journey involved significant mental health work and emotional acceptance.
“It’s not just as simple as change your diet and move,” she said. “You have to change your brain. You have to come to peace and acceptance about where you are in your life before you can start.”
Sobriety and Weight Loss
The daughter of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne’s sobriety journey began in 2017, and she has been open about her experiences, including a relapse in 2021.
In 2020, she underwent gastric sleeve surgery to aid in weight loss and later denied rumors of using Ozempic, clarifying that her transformation, which included losing 85 pounds, was the result of a multi-faceted effort.
Osbourne celebrated one year of sobriety in 2022 before welcoming her son, Sidney. She’s in a relationship with Slipknot turntablist Sid Wilson and shared that their little one isn’t scared of his dad’s Slipknot mask – in fact, she said, “he finds it so hilarious.”
Her candid discussion underscores the need for compassion and understanding regarding body image and personal transformation, highlighting the importance of mental and physical health.
