Donald Trump took time off from his presidential duties to praise actress Sydney Sweeney while reigniting his long-running feud with pop icon Taylor Swift. His comments came amid public backlash over Sweeney’s latest American Eagle campaign and underscored his ongoing disdain for Swift’s vocal support of Democratic candidates.
“The jeans are flying off the shelves,” Trump said, clearly unfazed by the backlash. He doubled down on his praise in a Truth Social post, where he used the opportunity to take a swipe at Taylor Swift.
“Just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift… I can’t stand her (HATE!),” Trump wrote. “She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT.” He blamed what he called her fall from grace on her endorsement of Kamala Harris during the 2024 election.
What Did Trump Say About Taylor Swift?
Trump ramped up his attacks on Swift after she backed Harris last September. At the time, he posted bluntly, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,” on his social platform. Yet despite his attempts to turn his supporters against her, Swift’s popularity has barely taken a hit – even Trump’s granddaughter, Arabella, attended the Eras Tour with Ivanka Trump in October.
Meanwhile, Sweeney has stayed quiet. She hasn’t publicly addressed her political views or responded to Trump’s endorsement. Still, her American Eagle ad – titled “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” – continues to spark controversy. Critics claim the ad promotes ideals of genetic superiority by emphasizing Sweeney’s blonde hair and blue eyes, drawing uncomfortable comparisons to Brooke Shields’ infamous Calvin Klein commercial from the 1980s.
Trump has made a habit of slamming brands he deems “woke,” from Bud Lite to Jaguar. In his latest post, he positioned Sweeney as the opposite – a symbol of anti-woke values.
“The tide has seriously turned,” he wrote. “Being WOKE is for losers – being Republican is what you want to be.”
Well, you never know what you will get with the Trumps, especially when Trump Jr. shared an AI-generated image of his father wearing Sweeney’s denim outfit. His caption read: “That Hanse… Um, Donald is so hot right now!!!” The post instantly became nightmare fuel for the internet.
