Pop star Katy Perry testified that she and Orlando Bloom remain “family for life” as she pressed for “justice” in her ongoing legal dispute over her $15 million Montecito mansion.

The case stems from Perry’s 2020 purchase of the estate from 85-year-old entrepreneur Carl Westcott. The ex-Army veteran argues that post-surgery painkillers left him mentally unfit to complete the sale. Perry’s business manager, Bernie Gudvi, executed the purchase on her behalf.

In December 2023, a judge rejected Westcott’s claim and ruled that the evidence failed to prove he lacked capacity, affirming Perry’s ownership. She took possession of the property in May 2024. Perry won that verdict but now pursues a second trial to claim more than $4.8 million in damages for rental losses and property repairs.

Testifying on Tuesday, 26 August 2025, Perry described her motive in one word: “Justice.” She added, “I stand to lose money if it doesn’t work in my favour,” citing legal expenses and lost rental income.

“Family For Life”

Despite ending her engagement to Bloom in June 2025, Perry emphasized their commitment to co-parenting, telling the court: “We’re family for life.” Her testimony coincided with daughter Daisy Dove’s fifth birthday, a detail that resonated publicly.

Actor Chris Pratt and his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, currently rent the property. Westcott’s team has used to argue that the home was habitable, undermining Perry’s claims of disrepair. Perry, however, maintains that the estate required costly maintenance that justifies her damages claim.

Westcott’s family has condemned Perry’s approach, calling it “greedy” and “unforgivable,” while highlighting his declining health and wish for peace.

Judge Joseph Lipner also ruled that Bloom did not need to testify. The property is tied to an LLC linked to the actor

Perry was recently seen dining with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at a posh Montreal restaurant.
