Ex-MLB Star Rafael Furcal Arrested for Alleged ‘Deadly Missile’ Attack on Occupied Vehicle

Rafael Furcal, a former Major League Baseball All-Star, is facing serious legal trouble in South Florida. The Dominican-born shortstop, known for his time with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers, turned himself in to authorities this week.

According to Local 10 News in Miami, Furcal surrendered to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday. He was booked on two felony charges: aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle. The incident reportedly took place on Monday, though the exact circumstances remain unclear. It is not known where the incident occurred or who else was involved. Furcal’s surrender was described by law enforcement as a “self-surrender without incident.” He was later released after posting a $7,500 bond.

Rafael Furcal: Not the First Time The MLB Star Has Faced Legal Trouble

The 46-year-old has had prior legal issues. He was arrested for driving under the influence twice—once in 2000 and again in 2004—during his time with the Braves. Despite these earlier incidents, Furcal remained a standout player on the field.

He won National League Rookie of the Year in 2000 and was named an All-Star in 2003. After successful stints with the Braves and Dodgers, Furcal also played for the St. Louis Cardinals. He was part of their 2011 World Series-winning team. His final MLB appearance came with the Miami Marlins in 2014.

Since retiring from baseball, Furcal has kept a relatively low profile. However, this latest arrest has placed him back in the spotlight for unfortunate reasons.
