Colman Domingo nearly walked into a dangerous situation. The Emmy-winning actor admitted he once found himself surrounded by people who seemed welcoming at first. But soon he realized the gathering wasn’t what it appeared to be.
The star revealed the strange episode during a lighthearted chat on Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals. Host Josh Scherer teased him about Malibu cults, and Domingo surprised him with a real story. “I almost joined a cult in Mexico City,” he confessed. What started as a simple encounter with friendly strangers quickly turned into something unsettling.

Domingo said the group seemed harmless at first. “It was just a group of nice people,” he recalled. But then, he felt something shift. “I was like, ‘Wait a minute, this is weird.’ I was like, ‘What’s up with you guys?’” That suspicion pushed him to take a step back before things went further.

The actor admitted it was his first brush with a cult. At the time, he didn’t even recognize what he was dealing with. Only later, after doing some research, did he realize the truth. “As I did research and found out more about them, I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s a cult,’” he explained. The realization hit him after he left the encounter behind.
What unsettled him most was the pressure that followed. Domingo said when he refused, they pushed back. “I said no, and they were just like, ‘No, I think you really should,’” he recalled. That was the final red flag. “Don’t mess with cults, man. Don’t be the person that talks to too many people.” His instincts told him to escape before things escalated further.
