Singer Chris Brown was arrested in England on Thursday. He is accused of attacking a man in a London nightclub in 2023. Police confirmed they took a 36-year-old man into custody at a Manchester hotel. Under British law, they cannot name suspects unless charges are filed.

Music producer Abe Diaw told The Sun he was the victim. He said Brown hit him with a bottle and beat him while he was on the floor. The attack allegedly happened at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district in February 2023.

“Brown cracked me on the head with a bottle,” Diaw said. “Then he punched and kicked me as I was lying on the floor.”

The Sun reported it contacted police after learning Brown was in the UK. Officers then traveled to Manchester and arrested him. Brown’s team has not responded to a request for comment from The Associated Press.

History of Legal Troubles and Ongoing Lawsuit For Chris Brown

Diaw said he was hospitalized after the attack. He has filed a lawsuit seeking £12 million (about $16 million). The case is separate from the police investigation.

Brown, known as “Breezy,” rose to fame in 2005. His hits include “Run It,” “Kiss Kiss,” and “Without You.” He won his first Grammy in 2011 for F.A.M.E. He earned another earlier this year for 11:11 (Deluxe).

But Brown’s career has faced many legal issues. In 2009, he was convicted of assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna. He pleaded guilty to felony assault. In 2014, he admitted to hitting a man outside a hotel in Washington, D.C.

In 2024, Brown and his team allegedly attacked several men after a concert in Texas. Earlier this year, Brown also sued Warner Bros. Discovery. He claims they defamed him in a documentary titled Chris Brown: A History of Violence.

Despite the controversies, Brown is set to begin a new tour next month. Meanwhile, he will be joined by Jhene Aiko, Summer Walker, and Bryson Tiller. The tour starts in Europe and moves to North America in July.
