American Idol Season 23 came to a close on May 18, 2025, with Jamal Roberts taking the top spot. The finale featured the season’s top three—Jamal Roberts, John Foster, and Breanna Nix—competing for the crown in a live event filled with music, guest stars, and farewell moments.
Host Ryan Seacrest announced the results at the end of the night. John Foster placed second, while Breanna Nix finished third. Each finalist performed two songs in their final attempt to win over voters before the results were revealed.
Jamal performed Teeks’ “First Time” and The Temptations’ “Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me).” John chose Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue” and John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” Breanna delivered Katy Nichole’s “In Jesus Name” and Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb.”
Following the performances and voting, Jamal was named the winner. Seacrest said the finale brought in more votes than any other season in the show’s history.
American Idol Winner’s Prize and Future Plans
As this year’s American Idol winner, Jamal Roberts earned a recording deal with Hollywood Records. The contract includes $125,000 for signing and another $100,000 when he completes an album.
Winners are also eligible for up to $300,000 to cover album production costs. That amount is considered an advance and is repaid from future music earnings. There were no changes to the prize terms for 2025, so Jamal is expected to receive the standard deal.
