Life can be pretty unpredictable at times. And short track racer Robbie Brewer learnt it the hard way. The 53-year-old was slated to compete in the Bowman Gray Racing Stadium in Winston-Salem. Everything was going according to the plan. Until the dreaded moment came.

For the Sportsman division, where Brewer was participating, there were two 20-lap features. And sadly enough, with just four laps to go for the first twenty, tragedy struck. Getting to turn 4, Brewer’s car got stuck. And what followed afterwards was a heart-wrenching tragedy.

Robbie Brewer Suffers Heart Attack Mid Race

Brewer’s car failed to take the turn on exit 4. And this made him fly out of the car and thud into a concrete wall head first. As the medical team came running to aid Brewer, he was found to have passed away from the impact. However, after initial investigation and diagnosis, another shocking and sad revelation has come up.

It has been reported that the crash might not be the actual reason for his death. The primary reason why his car flipped was because the 53-year-old suffered a heart attack mid-race. Soon after the incident, the racer was rushed to a local hospital. Sadly enough, his family confirmed the news of his death Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, this was not the first time that Brewer had participated in a race. Participating in the track’s Sportsman, Tour Type Modified, and Stadium Stock divisions, Brewer boasted of 311 Bowman Gray starts. He also earned a total of 11 career victories, along with the 2011 track championship in the Sportsman competition. While his death is surely a sad one, the fatality marks the fifth instance of such a tragedy happening in Bowman’s. And Brewer’s death is the first instance of a death in nearly 20 years.
