A playful moment at the Met Gala caught attention when Usher issued a lighthearted apology to Sabrina Carpenter’s father. The Espresso singer shared a photo dump on Instagram, which included a picture of Usher feeding her a cherry while she sticks out her tongue.

One of the images in the dump was a screenshot of her father’s reaction to seeing Usher feed her a cherry during his performance. Sabrina Carpenter’s father, David, who is named “Dadda” in her contacts, sent her the photo of her and Usher that he saw on Twitter. “? Weird,” David texted her.

In response, Usher commented on her post, “Apologies Mr. Carpenter,” accompanied by laughing and cherry emojis. The cherry-feeding gesture is a signature move in Usher’s performances.

Usher in the Wonder

The Met Gala saw Usher perform alongside Stevie Wonder. Usher sang a medley of his hits, including “U Don’t Have to Call,” 2004’s “Yeah!” and 2010’s “OMG,” according to Vogue. Meanwhile, Wonder, 74, performed renditions of “Sir Duke,” “Black Man,” “Higher Ground,” “Isn’t She Lovely,” “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours),” “I Wish” and “Superstition.”

The 25-time Grammy winner also sang a rendition of “Another Star” with Usher.

As for Sabrina, she wore a pants-less Louis Vuitton outfit, which she previously revealed was because of Pharrell Williams. Carpenter explained that Pharrell Williams suggested the pantless look due to her petite stature, remarking, “You’re quite short, so no pants for you”.

Beyond the Espresso-inspired fashion statement, Carpenter noted a practical benefit of her attire: the ease of using the bathroom during the event.

This year’s Met Gala was co-chaired by Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour, alongside LeBron James as honorary chair. The event is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute and spotlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, also themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”.
