Travis Kelce gets candid about the challenges faced behind the scenes while hosting Saturday Night Live in 2023. In a recent episode of the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end admitted that the toughest part of hosting SNL was the pre-show table read, revealing, “I can’t really read that well.”
“The writers’ rooms were fun because people were just pitching ideas,” Kelce said. “But the table read- for a guy who struggles with reading – it was a rough situation.”
“I wasn’t focused on acting or giving the lines a voice or character,” he added. “I was just trying to get through it without skipping a line.”

Kelce hosted the 14th episode of SNL Season 48 on March 4, 2023, with Kelsea Ballerini as the musical guest.
Once he made it through the table read, Kelce said he felt “so much more comfortable” diving into the comedy and silliness of the show.
“There was still a sense of, ‘I need to be professional here,’” he said. “I wanted to take it seriously and have fun, but I didn’t want to look like a loser doing it. I wanted the cast and crew to respect how seriously I took the opportunity. It was just a fun roller coaster, man.”
Kelce has been making moves into Hollywood recently, landing a recurring role in FX’s Grotesquerie and a part in Netflix’s upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel alongside Adam Sandler.

Kelce also admitted that paparazzi culture caught him completely off guard. “The paparazzi – that’s probably the only thing I didn’t really grasp until I was in it,” he said candidly.
