It’s official: The Witcher 4 is under full-scale production. CD Projekt Red has officially confirmed that the next installment in the acclaimed RPG series is underway.
Revealed at The Game Awards 2024, the cinematic trailer showcases Ciri undertaking a contract to protect the village of Stromford from a monstrous threat. The narrative begins with her intervening in a dark ritual, setting the tone for a morally complex storyline.
The game marks a significant shift by featuring Ciri as the main protagonist, embarking on her own journey as a fully-fledged Witcher. This title is set to inaugurate a new trilogy, continuing the saga beyond Geralt of Rivia’s story.

Here’s a first look at The Witcher 4.
Release date? Platform?
While specific platforms haven’t been announced, it’s expected that The Witcher 4 will be available on PC and next-generation consoles. Additionally, CD Projekt Red is overseeing a remake of the original 2007 Witcher game, which will be released after The Witcher 4.
What about the release date? It appears that the game will not be out before 2027. CD Projekt Red CFO Piotr Nielubowicz said, “We are not going to announce the precise launch date for the game yet.”
The last game in the series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, started development in mid-2011 but wasn’t officially announced until 2013. The launch happened two years later in 2015. Then there’s Cyberpunk 2077, which was first teased in 2012 and didn’t hit shelves for another eight years. In addition to its rough launch.
So yeah, the next Witcher game is still a long way off. CD Projekt Red will almost definitely take its time to get things right this time around. It should, especially after everything that went down with Cyberpunk.
