Taylor Swift finally debuted the first re-recording off of her Reputation (Taylor’s Version) album on The Handmaid’s Tale. When episode nine of Season 6 kicked off on Monday night, viewers heard Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version) in full. The song underscores a dramatic uprising led by Elisabeth Moss’s character, June Osborne. Moss, a longtime Swift fan, expressed her excitement about incorporating Swift’s music into the series, noting that the timing felt perfect.
Fans have interpreted this debut as a strong indication that the full Reputation (Taylor’s Version) album is imminent, especially with Swift dropping subtle hints. The theory gained traction after she updated her website, specifically the sections labeled Apparel, Music, Accessories, and Sale, which conveniently spell out “AMAs.”.
Look What You Made Me Do was originally released in 2017 as the lead single from Swift’s Reputation album. The re-recorded version retains its defiant tone while featuring updated production and vocals. This release continues Swift’s ongoing project to re-record her early albums, aiming to regain control over her master recordings.
The Handmaid’s Tale
The track played during a powerful scene on the Hulu series, as Elisabeth Moss’s character, June, led a rebellion of handmaids against the Commanders.
Moss said it was “the perfect song for the perfect moment” in an interview with Billboard.
“Taylor has been such an inspiration to me personally. As a Swiftie myself, and I think I can speak for [co-star] Yvonne [Strahovski] and our entire cast as well, who are all Swifties, it’s such an honor to be able to use her music in the final episodes of our show,” she added. “I said to my editor, Wendy, ‘I really want to find a place for a Taylor track in the last 2 episodes of the show’ and we wanted to find a music queue for the opening of 9, and all the credit goes to Wendy for picking this track for this moment!”
