SZA responded to Nicki Minaj’s tirade, and what’s more? She’s brought receipts. After the Anaconda singer launched into a long-winded tirade on social media, the SOS singer clapped back by saying she’s turned down multiple requests from Nicki to collaborate.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), SZA wrote: “Nicki. You absolutely know my music and what I contribute – you’ve asked for features twice and got no response. You even rapped my lyrics on ‘Feeling Myself’ – ‘Cooking up the bass looking like a kilo’? Lol. You’re having a moment…I’m not sure why, but be blessed.”
To back it up, SZA even posted a screenshot showing a message from Nicki’s camp reaching out to her team about getting her on a track.
What Started It?
The tension stems from SZA choosing not to do the hook on a proposed collab – something that didn’t sit well with Minaj, who’s been dragging her all over X ever since. Nicki’s posts went from shady to full-on personal. She wrote: “B**ch looking & sounding like she got stung by a f***ing bee.”
And followed it with:
“Wait. Does SZA think she’s more successful than me? Lol y’all catch me up pls. If every song she ever made disappeared, the music biz wouldn’t miss her. I’ve toured countries that never even heard of her. Stadiums? Girl, look at my venues – 80K headlining shows. Have you ever?”
She also questioned the legitimacy of SZA’s recent success. Nicki accused her of gaming the charts by releasing a deluxe version of SOS just to break records.
Yikes. This beef isn’t cooling off anytime soon. Meanwhile, SZA and Kendrick Lamar’s Grand National Tour continues this month with stops in Cardiff, London, and elsewhere.
As for Nicki Minaj, well, she recently dropped a bombshell by accusing Jay-Z of owing her between $100 million and $200 million. She branded it a “karmic debt” demanding immediate settlement. Make of that what you will.
