Seth Rogen had doubted whether success would ever come his way and had saved his first paycheck for good reason. The teen actor on Freaks and Geeks rose to fame by writing hit comedies like Superbad and Neighbors did not envision success coming his way.
“I paid rent with it,” he said, “I saved most of it because I genuinely didn’t think I’d ever get another paycheck. I tried to stretch that first paycheck as long as humanly possible.”
Byrne also took a similarly practical route. She used her first big payday to clear her credit card debt. “It’s a game-changer,” she shared.
Teen Actor to Hollywood Powerhouse
Rogen first appeared on screen as Ken Miller in Freaks and Geeks, the cult hit that aired just one season in 2000. The show launched his career, with early roles in comedies like The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
His breakout came in 2007, when he starred opposite Katherine Heigl in the rom-com Knocked Up. From there, he cemented his place in Hollywood with hit comedies like Superbad, Pineapple Express, Neighbors, and Sausage Party. He also stepped into directing with This Is the End and The Interview with longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg.
Beyond acting, he’s made a name for himself as a powerhouse producer, with credits on shows like The Boys and Gen V. Rogen, recently earned an Emmy nomination for his performance in the comedy The Studio, which he also created.
He now stars in Platonic, which follows Will (Rogen) and Sylvia (Byrne), former childhood best friends who reconnect as adults and stumble through career, love, and life’s awkward moments. Their chemistry often leads to hilariously relatable chaos.
