Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s relationship has been the subject of much excitement, especially now as rumors swirl about their upcoming wedding. Fans are eagerly anticipating the couple’s nuptials, but one thing appears to be missing from their plans: the traditional first dance.
On a recent episode of Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware, Selena revealed that she and Benny are opting out of the customary first dance, explaining that she feels too shy for it. “I don’t think we’re looking at having one of those ‘cause they’re a little — I feel embarrassed,” she said. Benny humorously added, “She’s shy,” clarifying the reason behind their decision.

However, while the first dance may be off the table, Selena has a heartfelt twist in mind for the occasion. She plans to have a “special dance,” but instead of Benny as her partner, she intends to dance with her maternal grandfather. “He never got a chance to walk my mom down the aisle,” Selena explained. “Because, good for my mom, she decided to go to Las Vegas and be like, ‘Whoo,’ and she’s still been with [my father] ever since they were like 26. So it’s very cute that they did that, but I wanted to give him the opportunity to have that.”
As the conversation continued, the topic shifted to another wedding tradition from Benny’s Jewish heritage—the Hora, a celebratory chair dance. While the idea of being lifted in a chair may seem daunting, Selena expressed her nervousness. “I’ve got to be honest, it looks so cute and adorable, but I was like, ‘What? Do I have to depend on just something like a chair?’” she shared, admitting her hesitation toward the ritual.
Selena and Benny have been together for some time, having confirmed their relationship in December 2023. Their engagement was announced nearly a year later, in December 2024, with Selena sharing her excitement on Instagram, writing, “Forever begins now,” alongside a picture of her engagement ring. The couple, who has known each other for years, has also worked together on music, including Selena’s hits “Kill Em With Kindness” and “Same Old Love” from her 2015 Revival album.
With wedding preparations underway, it’s clear that Selena and Benny are crafting a celebration that reflects their unique love story, blending tradition with personal touches. Fans can’t wait to see what else the couple has in store for their big day.
