Tension is growing between former ESPN colleagues Robert Griffin III and Ryan Clark. The dispute centers on Griffin’s comments about the rivalry between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark. Griffin suggested that Reese dislikes Caitlin Clark. That statement did not sit well with Ryan Clark.
Clark responded on his podcast, The Pivot, criticizing Griffin’s view. He accused Griffin of reinforcing stereotypes. Clark also brought up Griffin’s personal life. He pointed to Griffin’s two marriages to white women. According to Clark, this limits Griffin’s understanding of what Black women like Reese go through.
Ryan Clark Says RG3 Lacks Insight on Black Women’s Experiences
Clark argued that Griffin doesn’t discuss the struggles of Black women at home. He said this leads to Griffin lacking empathy for Reese. He also mentioned Griffin’s wife appearing in the background of the video. Her behavior, according to Clark, seemed to support Griffin’s point while mocking Reese.
RGIII saying he could recognize “hate when ‘he’ see(s) it”, when referring to Angel Reese’s feelings toward Caitlin Clark was irresponsible, but not at all surprising. Clark didn’t stop there. He shared experiences from working with Griffin at ESPN. He recalled Griffin making jokes about his love for milk and repeatedly highlighting his wife’s skin color online. Clark felt these actions promoted the idea that whiteness made her valuable. He saw it as an indirect slight toward Black women.
Clark also addressed a broader issue. He spoke about how some Black men who marry outside their race feel the need to elevate their partner at the expense of Black women. This, he said, reflects deeper issues in how Black women are treated and seen.
He urged people not to compare Reese and Caitlin Clark using old stereotypes. He warned against framing Reese as the villain and Caitlin as the hero. Clark said that this kind of narrative harms both women, especially Reese.
Conflict Likely to Continue
Clark closed his remarks with a pointed message for Griffin. He claimed that even if Griffin repeated racist language or behavior, it wouldn’t make him less Black. That final comment added a personal edge to an already heated topic.
The feud adds more complexity to the Reese-Clark rivalry, which had already sparked debate. Now, with Griffin’s personal life pulled into the conversation, the situation has become even more intense. A response from Griffin seems likely, given the strong and personal nature of Clark’s comments.
