We got a whole year before GTA 6.
Rockstar Games has confirmed the release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 – but the news is likely to disappoint eager fans. After years of anticipation, gamers worldwide were hoping for an earlier release, but Rockstar has now announced that the game won’t arrive until next year.
Previously, the company has been saying the action-adventure open world title was on track for a fall 2025 launch, though a specific release date was never set.
In a statement shared on Instagram on May 2, the company revealed: “Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026. We deeply apologize that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement around a new Grand Theft Auto has been incredibly humbling for our entire team. Thank you for your support and patience as we continue working to finish the game.”
“With every release, our goal has always been to exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no different. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver the level of quality you expect and deserve. We look forward to sharing more information with you soon. Sincerely, Rockstar.”

GTA 6 Set To Dominate
Rockstar has yet to reveal the pricing details for GTA 6. The fifth major installment of the series, first released in 2013, continues to be one of the most successful live gaming services in the industry. GTA 5 has sold over 200 million copies and generated more than $8 billion in revenue throughout its lifetime.
Despite the delay, excitement remains strong, with analysts predicting that GTA 6 could earn over $3.2 billion in its first year, potentially surpassing the revenue of its predecessor, GTA 5, in the same timeframe.
The delay also clears space in the second half of 2025 for other games, giving them a better chance to succeed. However, developers and publishers who rushed their games to launch before GTA 6’s expected fall 2025 release window might not be as pleased. And a game planned for release around May next year, it’s probably time to rethink the strategy.
