Veteran wrestler R-Truth has parted ways with the WWE, bringing his 17-year run to an end. The 53-year-old announced his departure on June 1 through social media, where he thanked both WWE and his fans for their support.

Over the past few weeks, R-Truth has teamed up with Jimmy Uso, Solo Sikoa, and others on Friday nights as part of WWE’s SmackDown brand. The 53-year-old’s tweet surprised fans, especially since R-Truth had just faced John Cena last week at Saturday Night’s Main Event in what turned out to be Truth’s final WWE match.

R-Truth, whose real name is Ronnie Killings, began his current run with the promotion in 2008. Thanks to his wacky shenanigans, fans have embraced him for much of his time in WWE. He captured multiple championships, including two United States Titles, two Tag Team Titles, and a record-setting 54 reigns as WWE 24/7 Champion. He made his final appearances in a match against John Cena at Saturday Night’s Main Event on May 24 and later faced JC Mateo on SmackDown.

WWE’s Locker Room In Shock

R-Truth’s release by the WWE happened as his contract with the company was due to expire and would not be renewed beyond that point.

Many wonder if the WWE had planned this decision, as it would have turned R-Truth’s match with Cena into a career-ending bout and given R-Truth a proper send-off. Instead, the sudden timing of his release left the WWE fraternity in shock, and they reacted with surprise and support, with fellow WWE stars like Rhea Ripley and Pat McAfee expressing their appreciation for his contributions.

Kevin Owens wrote an apt tribute to the fan favorite:

R-Truth’s departure marks the end of a significant era in WWE, leaving a legacy of entertainment and fan engagement.
