The attorney of R.Kelly raised an alarm over his client’s safety in prison, claiming the singer was hospitalized after he suffered a medical emergency after receiving an excessive dose of medication while in solitary confinement.

Documents reveal the incident happened just days after Kelly’s legal team filed motions accusing the Bureau of Prisons of endangering his life. Within 48 hours of that filing, prison officials allegedly placed the 58-year-old in isolation and administered additional medication.

The next morning, R. Kelly collapsed in his cell, experiencing dizziness, vision problems, and fainting. He was rushed to Duke University Hospital, where doctors reportedly determined the dosage he received could have been lethal.

“Within two days of filing our motion, Bureau of Prisons officials gave Mr. Kelly a dangerously high dose of medication that caused an overdose and put his life at risk,” said attorney Beau B. Brindley. “They gave him a dose that could have killed him.”

Brindley also stated that hospital doctors discovered blood clots in both of Kelly’s legs and lungs and recommended immediate surgery. However, armed officers allegedly entered his hospital room and removed him before the procedure could take place. This effectively denied him the treatment he needed.

Ongoing Threat

In a third emergency motion for release, Kelly’s legal team alleges ongoing threats to his life. It included claims from another inmate that staff and white supremacist groups were targeting the singer. “This will be confirmed by hospital records,” Brindley insisted. “It is undeniable.”

The legal team alleged that prison officials at a North Carolina federal penitentiary attempted to orchestrate his murder by soliciting another inmate to kill him.

The filing includes a sworn statement from Mikeal Glenn Stine, a terminally ill Aryan Brotherhood member. Stine claimed that officials promised him freedom in exchange for murdering Kelly. Stine also said the officials warned him he’d be charged. However, he was assured that the evidence would be tampered with to prevent a conviction. He also alleged that authorities retaliated because Kelly and his lawyers planned to expose violations of attorney-client privilege.

Although Stine initially planned to carry out the murder, he changed his mind and warned Kelly about the plot. The filing further claims that a second Aryan Brotherhood member was later instructed to kill both Kelly and Stine. Kelly’s attorneys argue he remains in danger due to continued exposure to Brotherhood members in custody.
