Pokémon Presents gave fans a fresh look at Pokémon Legends: Z-A, revealing several exciting updates for the upcoming RPG. One of the biggest highlights was the debut of Mega Dragonite, a brand-new Mega Evolution form that blends classic design with bold new features.
According to the developers, “Mega Dragonite is a newly discovered Mega-Evolved Pokémon with distinctive Dragonair-like features, including wings on its head and a pearl on its tail. Mega Dragonite can also fly faster and farther than ever before.”
Visually, the new form borrows heavily from Dragonair, incorporating elegant winged headpieces and pearl accents. Reactions have been polarizing. Fans called it either “the most adorable design yet” or slammed it as a design misstep.
Regardless of opinion, Mega Dragonite might just be the first of many new forms. A three-month-old post on the PokeLeaks subreddit claimed that Pokémon Legends: Z-A will introduce 27 new Mega Evolutions, listing Dragonite among them. While unofficial, the leak seems increasingly credible-so those avoiding spoilers may want to steer clear.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A Release
Legends: Z-A will launch on both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. The release is set for October 16. Game Freak designed the game for both consoles, promising a smooth and consistent experience across platforms.
Unlike Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which explored the ancient past, Z-A unfolds in the modern-day Kalos region. It is specifically in the tech-forward city of Lumiose, a familiar location from Pokémon X and Y. Because of the present-day setting, introducing entirely new Pokémon species would risk breaking continuity. To sidestep that, Game Freak is expanding the Kalos Pokédex through Mega Evolutions. The enhanced forms of existing Pokémon that don’t require new Pokédex entries.
With modern gameplay, dual-console support, and a wave of Mega Evolutions on the way, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is shaping up to be a bold evolution for the series-one Dragonite wingbeat at a time.
