Orlando Bloom has thought hard about what it would take for Pirates of the Caribbean to succeed again amid Hollywood’s wave of reboots and revivals. He believes the franchise’s success depends on two things: Writing and the full cast.

The actor who played Will Turner in the first, second, third, and fifth films told a crowd at the 2025 Fan Expo Chicago, “Everything is in the writing, right? Everything is on the page, and I think there’s definitely, I’m sure there’s a way to create something.”

Bloom went on to add, “I would personally love to see everybody back. I think the way to win on that one is to get everybody back. If they can, and if everybody wanted to go back.”

A Journey With Orlando Bloom

Fan Expo Chicago featured Bloom’s panel, To The Edge: A Journey With Orlando Bloom, as one of its main events. Throughout his discussion of major franchises like The Lord of the Rings, Bloom emphasized that strong writing always forms the foundation of a good project.

On Pirates, he reflected: “My thing is, if the script was great and – ideally it was everybody – it’d be kind of like in for a penny, in for a pound, you know.” The 48-year-old actor speculated about Walt Disney Pictures’ plans for a revival.

“They’re thinking about how to do it. Do you bring in a female leading character that replicates Jack in some way? I don’t know. The jury is out on how to do it again, but if [the script] was great,” Bloom said, he would return.

A full cast reunion, however, faces major obstacles – most notably the legal battles that have dominated Johnny Depp’s life over the past decade. Depp’s ex-wife, Amber Heard, accused him of physical and verbal abuse. Depp denied the allegations and sued The Sun after the tabloid labeled him a “wife beater.”

On the personal front, Bloom ended his engagement to pop star Katy Perry six years after they got engaged. The couple has a four-year-old daughter.

Critics slammed Perry for taking a trip to space on the Blue Origin spaceflight – a decision Bloom disapproved of. Earlier this month, Perry dined with Justin Trudeau in Montreal, and the former Prime Minister showed up at her concert just days later. Bloom’s reaction to the story says it all.
