Miley Cyrus has dismissed criticism that claimed she was “dismissive” toward fans during a recent record signing event in London. The Flowers singer appeared alongside supermodel Naomi Campbell last week for a special meet-and-greet to promote their new single, Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved.
After the event, fans voiced frustration, accusing Cyrus and Campbell of being rude, as they spent more time chatting with each other than engaging with the audience. They also expressed disappointment at feeling “ignored.”
On Tuesday, Miley addressed the backlash in an Instagram post, thanking everyone who showed up:
“I saw so many familiar faces & met some sweet new ones,” she wrote. “The record store requested no photos due to the unexpected last minute turn out but we knew the night needed to be captured… To everyone who came out to celebrate our single, we love you.”
She also explained that the vinyl edition of Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved had not been scheduled for release until this week, but they expedited it as a surprise for fans.
“But since we were both in London, @roughtradeeast made it happen day of,” Miley shared. “I wanted to gift my Smilers an exclusive experience & unreleased vinyl to thank you for the love you’ve shown me in the UK over the years.”
Naomi Chimes In
Naomi Campbell also weighed in, defending Miley and reflecting on the night with a post on Instagram,
“@mileycyrus what a fun… signing. Thank you for having me by your side to celebrate the Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved vinyl release in London,” she posted, alongside photos and videos from the event. She added that Miley’s energy is “infectious” and her “graciousness is unreal with our fans”.
Despite the backlash, Naomi Campbell and Miley Cyrus both appear unfazed, sharing their appreciation for the night and brushing off the criticism with glowing posts.
Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved appears on Miley’s ninth studio album, Something Beautiful, which is out now. The disco-inspired track features spoken-word verses by Naomi, who also stars in the accompanying music video.
