Katy Perry says that she feels like a “human piñata”. The singer addressed the intense online criticism following her participation in Blue Origin’s all-female spaceflight and the launch of her Lifetimes Tour.
In an Instagram comment responding to a fan-organized Times Square billboard celebrating her tour, Perry expressed gratitude for her supporters and shared insights into her personal growth.

She described feeling like a “human piñata” due to the online negativity, stating, “When the ‘online’ world tries to make me a human piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed.”
Despite the backlash, Perry emphasized her resilience and commitment to authenticity, noting that she has done significant personal work to understand what is real and important to her. She highlighted the meaningful connections she shares with fans during live performances, saying, “What’s real is seeing your faces every night, singing in unison, reading your notes, feeling your warmth.”
Dr Luke & 143
Perry also reflected on the criticism of her recent album “143” and her collaboration with producer Dr. Luke, acknowledging the challenges but reaffirming her dedication to her artistic journey. She concluded by expressing excitement for her ongoing tour and the opportunity to connect with fans worldwide.
Perry’s dance routines during her Lifetimes Tour have been ridiculed online, her album 143 received some of the harshest reviews of her career, and she’s been heavily criticized for working again with producer Dr. Luke.
The decision reignited backlash due to Dr. Luke’s legal battle with Kesha, who accused him of sexual assault in a 2014 lawsuit. He denied the allegations and filed a defamation countersuit; after years of legal disputes, both parties reached a settlement in 2023.
In the end, if Katy Perry were a piñata, then we’d at least get candy for our trouble.
