Jennifer Aniston is stepping into a bold, dark role. She’s set to star in a new Apple TV+ series based on Jennette McCurdy’s bestselling memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died. Apple has officially ordered 10 episodes of the dramedy, which mixes heartbreak and humor to explore McCurdy’s experiences as a former child actor navigating life under the shadow of a controlling mother, played by Aniston.
According to the logline, the show follows an 18-year-old actress starring in a hit kids’ show and the intense, codependent bond she shares with her narcissistic mother, who thrives on being known as “a starlet’s mom.”
McCurdy, known for her roles on Nickelodeon’s iCarly and Sam & Cat, published the explosive memoir in 2022. The book became an instant bestseller, topping The New York Times list and holding a spot for over a year.
“I’ve been so touched by how much the emotional thrust of the story has connected with people, which I see as being my relationship with my mom,” McCurdy said after the book was released in 2022.
McCurdy is co-creating and running the show alongside Ari Katcher (Ramy, The Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show). Both will serve as writers and executive producers. Aniston is also on board as an executive producer.
Aniston’s Morning Show
This marks Aniston’s second major collaboration with Apple TV+. She also stars in and executive produces the hit series The Morning Show, which returns for its fourth season. Her performance has already earned her multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
The show also stars Reese Witherspoon. In addition, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Aaron Pierre, William Jackson Harper, and Boyd Holbrook have joined the cast.
The 10-episode season launches in September, with the first episode, followed by a weekly release through November. The fourth season will time jump to open nearly two years after the events of season three.
