Jason Momoa looks unrecognizable these days. The actor is officially back in Duncan Idaho mode, and in preparation for filming Dune: Part Three, he shared a video of himself shaving his beard for the first time in six years to get back into character. He revealed that he last shaved while filming the original Dune.
“Only for you, Denis,” Momoa said in the video, addressing Dune director Denis Villeneuve. Moments later, he added with a grimace, “Goddamnit! I hate it.”
Momoa portrayed Duncan Idaho in the first Dune film and confirmed his return for the upcoming sequel after skipping Dune: Part Two. In the story, Duncan serves as swordmaster and mentor to Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet). He sacrifices himself near the end of the first film to help Paul and his mother Jessica escape the Sardaukar soldiers. While Frank Herbert’s books bring Duncan back as a clone, Villeneuve hasn’t revealed whether the film will follow the same path-but Momoa is clearly returning.
Dune: Part Three
Dune: Part Three brings back several familiar faces, including Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh. The cast also features newcomers like Nakoa-Wolf Momoa-Momoa’s teenage son with Lisa Bonet-and Silo star Ida Brooke. They’ll portray Leto II and Ghanima, the twin children of Paul and Chani.
Earlier this month, Mamoa spoke about his son’s debut in the franchise. “He’s in for a rude awakening,” he said. “This is his first time in the workforce. It’s going to be good. He did it on his own. I didn’t want to help him, and he’s done it all himself-good for him.”
“You want your children to be better than you, and I actually believe he is,” Momoa added. “I couldn’t do what he’s doing at his age. There’s no way I could have sat in a room with Denis Villeneuve and held my own. I was on Baywatch at 19. He’s 16 and already holding it down with Denis.”
Dune: Part Three is expected to hit theaters in December 2026.
