Gregg Glenn III, a standout forward for Tulane men’s basketball, died over the weekend in what the university described as a “tragic accident.” He was 22 years old.
Tulane’s Vice President of Student Affairs, Sarah Cunningham, remembered Glenn as more than an athlete. “Gregg was a talented student-athlete who enriched our lives with his spirit, dedication, and passion for both sports and academics,” she wrote in a letter to the university community. “He brought joy and light to those around him. His commitment to excellence inspired many of us.”
The university described Glenn as someone who carried “an infectious personality, positive energy, and kindness” and who “brightened every room he entered.”
The Star of Tulane
As a 6-foot-7 forward, Glenn played a critical role in Tulane’s 2024–25 season. He finished fourth in scoring, averaging 10.6 points per game while shooting 49.8% from the field. He also ranked second on the team in rebounds (5.3) and assists (3.1) per game.
Tulane head coach Ron Hunter expressed heartbreak in a statement. “Our program was devastated this morning as we learned of the passing of our beloved Gregg Glenn III,” Hunter said. “He was not only an exceptional athlete but also a remarkable person who brought energy, dedication, and kindness to our team and community. Gregg’s spirit and passion will be deeply missed, and our thoughts are with his family and friends. We will honor his memory by continuing to celebrate the impact he had on all of us.”
A Rising Star On and Off the Court
Originally from Pompano Beach, Florida, Glenn joined the University of Michigan in 2022 under head coach Juwan Howard. During his freshman year in Ann Arbor, he played sparingly, averaging 1.5 points over four games, but transferred to Tulane, where he flourished.
Last season, Glenn started every game and quickly became a key player. He earned spots on the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll twice (Jan. 27 and March 3) and significantly increased his minutes and production from the previous year.
Before college, Glenn was a four-star recruit out of Calvary Christian Academy and earned three selections to the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches All-State Team. He also helped Team USA win gold at the 2019 FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Brazil.
