A high-speed collision. A fatal impact. And at the wheel. Former NFL cornerback Kelvin Joseph. The athlete, once drafted by the Dallas Cowboys and now suiting up in the UFL, has found himself at the heart of a deadly scandal. According to reports, a woman riding a motorcycle was killed in a horrific crash on a Texas freeway. What started as a rising football career is now shadowed by criminal charges and the death of 27-year-old Cody Morris.
Joseph, 25, was arrested shortly after he voluntarily contacted police in Plano to report his involvement in the crash. Reports suggested that the crash occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning. Authorities from nearby Richardson responded to the scene and later confirmed the victim’s identity. Joseph was behind the wheel of a BMW. And is now facing a second-degree felony for a collision involving death, in addition to a misdemeanor charge for driving while intoxicated.
Kelvin Joseph’s Football Career Takes Dark Turn After Deadly Freeway Accident Sparks Criminal Charges
This isn’t Joseph’s first brush with law enforcement. While he was with the Cowboys in 2022, Joseph was a passenger in an SUV linked to a deadly drive-by shooting in Dallas. Though investigators concluded he wasn’t the trigger man, the controversy lingered. And the NFL opted not to impose any discipline. Still, the stain of that incident had barely faded when this tragedy put him back in the spotlight. For all the wrong reasons.

Joseph’s football journey had seen a series of quick stops. After being drafted by Dallas in 2021, he bounced between teams in Miami, Seattle, and Indianapolis. Most recently, he played for the DC Defenders in the United Football League. His team was preparing for a conference championship game the very weekend of the crash. Now, those plans are on hold, and his future in professional sports hangs in the balance.
The UFL acknowledged the arrest but refused to issue further comment. Meanwhile, Joseph’s legal situation grows more serious by the day. An attorney who had previously represented him did not respond to inquiries. It’s now unclear if he has new representation following the crash. What is clear: a life has been lost, and Kelvin Joseph may soon be fighting for more than just a spot on a roster.
