Donald Trump may issue a full presidential pardon to Sean “Diddy” Combs before the music mogul receives his sentence later this year.
Trump has “seriously considered” granting clemency to Combs, who was recently convicted on two counts under the Mann Act. While the court acquitted him of more serious charges – including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking – the partial conviction has now put the possibility of a pardon into sharper focus.
Back in May, Trump told reporters he would “certainly” consider a Diddy pardon. What started as a vague possibility has now become “an actionable event” following Diddy’s partial guilty verdict earlier this month.
Diddy Files Motion
Combs’ legal team filed a motion requesting Judge Arun Subramanian to release him from pre-sentencing detention. They called his incarceration “unjustified and unprecedented,” arguing that he remains the only person in the U.S. currently jailed under the Mann Act for consensual sex.
“There has literally never been a case like this,” the motion stated. “Sean Combs should not be in jail for this conduct.” The legal team also argued that the government’s actions contradict standard Justice Department policy, which usually targets commercial sex exploiters rather than private individuals involved in consensual activity.
Trump on Epstein Files
Meanwhile, Donald Trump claimed that his name may be inserted into the Jeffrey Epstein files. He blames James Comey, Merrick Garland, or President Biden.
“I haven’t been overly interested in it. It’s a hoax blown out of proportion,” Trump said. “Those files were run by the worst scum-Comey, Garland, Biden-for four years. If they had anything, they’d have released it.”
The U.S. President called the allegations “fake” and compared them to the “phony” Steele dossier. He added that the files were managed by “sick people.” When asked about potentially pardoning Ghislaine Maxwell, Trump said, “I’m allowed to, but no one’s asked me about it. Right now, it would be inappropriate to discuss.”
He also said that he “never had the privilege” of visiting Jeffrey Epstein’s private Caribbean island. Trump explained that he declined an invitation.
