That didn’t stop Corenswet. Or James Gunn. The new DC era pushed forward, loud protests or not. But now, as the July 11 release creeps closer, Corenswet is finally opening up. After a year of silence, he’s chosen to address the noise.

In his GQ interview, Corenswet didn’t dodge. He looked the backlash square in the eye. “I was aware of it,” he said. And instead of getting pulled into the online circus, he made a decision early: don’t engage. “You can’t pay attention to it,” he explained. His focus, he insisted, had to be on the role. Not on the memes, the boycotts, or the threads trying to drag him down.

James Gunn’s approach mirrors Corenswet’s calm. He even welcomes the division. In his own words to Rolling Stone, “I think you don’t wanna have everybody root for you.” Gunn doesn’t name the actor who obsesses over hate comments. But hints at the dangers of diving too deep into digital opinion wars. “These people help us,” he says, “because you don’t want everything to seem 100% positive.” It’s the noise, he argues, that makes the signal stronger.
Corenswet isn’t pretending the criticism doesn’t exist. He just refuses to let it own him. There’s no clapback. No wounded ego. Just a methodical determination to earn the suit. On his terms. As the Snyder movement threatens to derail the film’s release, Corenswet stays grounded. No Twitter fights. No back-and-forth. Just work. Surely, this Superman is watching the chaos from a distance. And he’s still flying straight through it.
