Chrissy Teigen has come to Selena Gomez‘s defense in the aftermath of the White House’s response to her posts on the recent immigration raids.
Last week Selena Gomez shared an emotional video expressing concern over the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) raids and the separation of undocumented immigrant families.
Following negative comments from social media, Gomez promptly deleted the video and wrote in a subsequent story: “Apparently it’s not OK to show empathy for people”.
White House Responds
The White House responded by releasing a video featuring mothers whose children were allegedly murdered by undocumented immigrants, challenging Gomez’s stance.
Following Gomez’s post, a Republican authority figure poured scorn on her tearful response to US President Donald Trump’s deportation measures, telling her to “go to congress”.
Tom Homan, the former Acting Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, reacted to the video by saying: “We’re gonna do this job, and we’re gonna enforce the laws of this country. If they don’t like it, then go to congress and change the law”.
“Loser Behavior”
Chrissy Teigen criticized the White House’s reaction. Speaking to TMZ, Teigen said “I love her” about Gomez.
“Empathy should never be frowned upon or made fun of, and the fact that the White House has enough time to even make a statement or a video about it is f*cking preposterous and disgusting and lame and loser behavior.”
As for Selena Gomez, the star is unfazed by the politician’s reaction. She also had the time to respond to Republican Sam Parker. In a post on her Instagram Stories, she wrote over a black background, “Oh, Mr. Parker, Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat.”
Gomez was born in Texas and is a lifelong American citizen.
