Cardi B has revealed the reason behind the inclusion of her hit singles “WAP” and “Up” on her upcoming album, Am I the Drama?, which is set to release in September. In a statement posted to X on June 25, the rapper made it clear: she’s giving fans what they’ve been asking for.
“This will be the last and only time I’m gonna address this,” she wrote. “WAP and Up are two of my biggest songs, and my fans have been asking me to put them on an album.” She added that listeners often look for the tracks on her debut Invasion of Privacy, and felt they “deserve a home.”
Cardi admitted that criticism once swayed her decisions, including her choice not to submit WAP for Grammy consideration. “At this point, I’m giving my fans what they want,” she said.
She also shut down claims that the move was a sales ploy, clarifying that the songs won’t count toward first-week numbers.
In 2020, WAP made history on the ARIA Singles Chart as the first female-led rap song in 28 years to reach number one. Salt-N-Pepa’s 1992 hit Let’s Talk About Sex last held the record, following Dimples D’s 1991 track Sucker DJ.
