Does Quentin Tarantino have a favorite Tarantino movie? For decades, cinephiles have argued over which Tarantino movie reigns supreme. Now, the director himself has weighed in, settling the debate.
Few filmmakers ignite as much debate as Quentin Tarantino. With a career full of cult classics, unforgettable characters, and dialogue etched into film history, he stands apart. But this time, the two-time Oscar winner fueled the conversation by naming not only his favorite film but also his greatest achievement.
In true Tarantino fashion, his choices will spark as many arguments as they settle. In an interview on The Church of Tarantino podcast, the filmmaker said, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is my favorite, Inglourious Basterds is my best.” He went on to add that Kill Bill is the “ultimate Quentin movie”.
Tarantino summarized his response with the statement, “Kill Bill is the movie I was born to make. Inglourious Basterds is my masterpiece, but Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is my favorite.”
The director ranked Inglourious Basterds as his best script, and Hateful Eight and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood right behind.
No Hollywood Sequel
Despite his affection for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Tarantino passed on directing its sequel, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, which David Fincher will helm for Netflix. He admitted he turned it down because he didn’t want his 10th and final film to be a sequel.
“I love this script, but I’m still walking down the same ground I’ve already walked,” Tarantino said. “It just kind of unenthused me. For this last movie, I need to not know what I’m doing again. I need to be in uncharted territory.”
Tarantino also addressed his long-rumored final film, The Movie Critic, and confirmed he scrapped the project because it felt too close to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
