Taylor Swift was writing songs about Travis Kelce all along. In her surprise debut on the New Heights podcast, hosted by Travis and his brother Jason, the singer alluded to the fact that Kelce turned out to be the man she’d been envisioning all along.
Swift joked that she owes her relationship to the New Heights podcast. “This podcast got me a boyfriend,” she said, recalling how Kelce first tried to meet her during her Kansas City stop on the Eras Tour in 2023.
Kelce the Rom-Com Hero?
Swift described how Kelce’s failed attempt to give her a friendship bracelet led to playful banter between them. At the time, Kelce didn’t have a meet-and-greet pass and, according to Swift, “threw a man-tantrum” about it. “It was such a wild romantic gesture to be like, ‘I wanna date you!’ This dude didn’t get a meet-and-greet, and he’s making it everyone’s problem. That’s what I thought at first,” she teased.
She added that Kelce never contacted her management for a date but still came to the concert with Patrick Mahomes, hoping that knowing “the elevator lady” might get him into her dressing room. “When this podcast came out, I was like, ‘Did he ever reach out to be in the tents, or did we know he was in the building?’” Swift laughed. He also planned to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it.
At first, she thought, “If this guy isn’t crazy, this is exactly the kind of thing I’ve been writing about since I was a teenager.” Comparing the gesture to an ’80s John Hughes film, Swift said it felt like a modern version of “standing outside my window with a boombox, like, ‘Do you want to go on a date with me? I made you a friendship bracelet! Do you want to date me?”
New Album
Swift opened up during a nearly two-hour pre-recorded podcast, drawing more than a million viewers to a YouTube stream on Wednesday evening.
In teasers released before her first-ever appearance on New Heights, the singer promised to discuss her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, and reflect on her record-breaking Eras Tour, which wrapped in December 2024.
