Men Shot at Justin Bieber Party Seek $10.6M From Kodak Black in Shocking Lawsuit

The two bystanders shot outside a 2022 Justin Bieber-hosted party are now seeking millions in default damages from Kodak Black. The defendants allege that they saw the rapper initiate the altercation that triggered the gunfire. That same shooting also struck Kodak Black.

The shooting took place on February 12, 2022, outside The Nice Guy restaurant in West Hollywood during an afterparty for Bieber’s Super Bowl Weekend performance. The high-profile guest list included Lil Baby, Drake, Gunna, Khloe Kardashian, Hailey Bieber, and Tobey Maguire.

Paramedics transported Kodak Black to a nearby hospital after a gunshot wound to his upper leg, according to a police report. Two bystanders, Mark Schaefer and Adam Rahman, sustained gunshot injuries. Schaefer was shot above his right ankle. Rahman sustained a gunshot wound to his left shoulder. Police made no arrests in the case

The original lawsuit also named Justin Bieber and the restaurant’s owners as defendants. But in June 2024, the judge ruled the shooting was not “foreseeable” for the venue and dismissed the corporate defendants. The plaintiffs later voluntarily dismissed Bieber from the case.

The lawyer of the plaintiffs argued that Kodak Black, the sole remaining defendant, failed to respond to the lawsuit and should be found in default. The plaintiffs asked the court to hold him liable.

Kodak Black’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, criticized the legal effort. “Kodak has never been served with any lawsuit from California,” he said. “He was never on notice of anything from California. I find it unusual they’re suing the person who suffered the most serious injury in the shooting.”

Rahman and Schaefer, initially sought a $62 million default judgment against Black which the court rejected. The men submitted a revised claim for $10.6 million, but the judge also denied that request.

Born Dieuson Octave, Kodak Black is  known for his song “No Flockin”.
