KPop Demon Hunters continues to dominate Netflix, smashing records as the animated film hits a major milestone for the platform. “KPop Demon Hunters just made Netflix history!” the official account announced. “It’s the first Netflix film ever to reach a new viewing peak in its fifth week of release.”

Netflix released the film on June 20. While it launched with a modest 9.2 million views, its popularity surged. From July 14 to July 20 alone, it racked up an impressive 25.8 million views-up from 24.2 million the previous week and 22.7 million the week before that.

So far, the film has reached a total of 106.1 million views, inching closer to the 137.3 million it needs to break into Netflix’s all-time English-language top 10. With roughly 60 days of viewership tracking still left, KPop Demon Hunters appears poised to make the cut.

    Beyond Netflix

The movie’s success extends beyond Netflix. “Golden,” a track by fictional girl group Huntrix, just hit number one on the Billboard Global 200. Several other songs from the soundtrack have also landed spots on the chart.

The animated adventure follows Huntrix, a fictional K-pop girl group that battles demons with the power of music. Their biggest challenge? A rival boy band called the Saja Boys-who turn out to be demons themselves.

Co-director Maggie Kang shared her vision for the film. “I just wanted to see something different from the Marvel female superheroes who are always sexy, cool, and badass. I wanted to create girls who had potbellies, who burped, who were crass and silly and fun-because that’s really who I am. I wanted something that showed all of those sides,” she said.

KPop Demon Hunters is now streaming on Netflix.
