As public backlash intensified, producers responded swiftly and removed Ortega from the show.
What Sparked the Controversy?
On Sunday, July 6, Ortega officially left the villa. Her removal came after fans rediscovered 2015 Instagram posts where she used offensive anti-Asian language. In one post, she wrote, “Still ch**kin’ at the top.” In another video clip, she made racially charged remarks about her appearance, saying, “I can also be a little c***k when I laugh/smile, so I love getting a mini brow lift to open up my eyes and get that snatched look.”
Producers Take Action
Faced with mounting backlash, producers reportedly held emergency meetings and soon confirmed Ortega’s removal. On air, host Iain Stirling stated that Ortega “left the villa due to a personal reason,” without directly addressing the controversy. Her departure marked the second contestant exit this season linked to inappropriate behavior; earlier, producers removed Yulissa Escobar for a similar issue.
Ortega’s exit left her partner Nic to continue in the competition as a single contestant.
