Melania Trump made a rare public remark about Taylor Swift, praising the pop star just months after her husband, Donald Trump, mocked the pop icon on social media.
During a recent visit to a children’s hospital in Washington, D.C., ahead of the Fourth of July, the First Lady spoke with them during an arts and crafts session at Children’s National Hospital. When one child excitedly named Swift as their favorite singer, Melania responded with a warm smile and called her “very talented.”
Her praise came after her husband posted on social media, “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’”
The First Lady
Melania spent the rest of the visit decorating patriotic crafts with the children and handing out teddy bears and small gifts. “Everybody gets a teddy bear – and more stuff, too,” she said as she greeted the young patients. When she asked why they were celebrating the next day, one child eagerly responded, “Independence Day!”
Promising a festive celebration, Melania invited the children to a future White House party, telling them, “It’s a very special day. So we will have a big party at the White House… When you feel better, maybe next year, you come over and we’ll celebrate together.”
When another child mentioned liking Sabrina Carpenter, Melania responded kindly, saying, “She’s great too.” To end the visit, she joined the children in planting a yellow tea rose named “Eternal Flame” in the hospital’s garden beds. Admiring the view, she remarked, “It’s beautiful here.”
Melania Trump is the eighth first lady to preside over the garden after Jill Biden, Michelle Obama, Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton, Barbara Bush, Nancy Reagan, and Rosalynn Carter.
