Brad Arnold, lead vocalist of rock band Three Doors Down, has announced that he has been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. The 45-year-old singer shared the news through an emotional video posted to Instagram on Wednesday, describing the last few weeks as a whirlwind.
Arnold said he had been feeling unwell for a couple of weeks, which led him to visit the hospital for tests. That’s when doctors told him he had clear cell renal carcinoma, a form of kidney cancer, which had already spread to his lung. He acknowledged the diagnosis as serious, calling it stage 4 and noting it wasn’t a good situation.
Clear cell renal cell carcinoma is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults. According to the National Cancer Institute, it accounts for about 80 percent of all renal cell carcinoma cases.
Brad Arnold Staying Strong Through Faith
Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, Arnold says he remains calm and faithful. “We serve a mighty God, and he can overcome anything. So I have no fear. I really, sincerely am not scared of it at all,” he said.
Arnold shared that his recent diagnosis has made it necessary to cancel Three Doors Down’s planned summer tour. While expressing regret over disappointing fans, he emphasized the importance of focusing on his health and recovery. He also asked supporters to keep him in their thoughts and prayers, saying their encouragement means a great deal to him during this challenging period.

Alongside the video, Arnold included a heartfelt caption thanking fans and expressing hope for what lies ahead. “Thank you for all the memories so far,” he wrote. “Now, I believe ‘ITS NOT MY TIME’ is really my song. This’ll be a battle so we need our prayers warriors! Thank y’all for being the best fans in the world. We love y’all! Brad.”
Arnold’s message quickly resonated with fans, especially his mention of “It’s Not My Time,” one of the band’s most popular songs. The track, originally released in 2008, now takes on a new meaning for the frontman in the face of a life-threatening illness.
Three Doors Down rose to fame in the early 2000s with hit singles like “Kryptonite,” “When I’m Gone,” “Here Without You,” and “Let Me Go.” Arnold currently performs alongside bandmates Chris Henderson, Greg Upchurch, Chet Roberts, and Justin Biltonen.
While the road ahead remains uncertain, Arnold is embracing the fight with courage and faith. His fans, who have supported him for decades, are now rallying behind him with love and prayers.
