In a deeply emotional episode of Sister Wives that aired on Sunday, May 4, Kody Brown opened up about the pain and regret he’s faced since the tragic passing of his son, Garrison Brown. The 25-year-old, who Kody shared with ex-wife Janelle Brown, died on March 5, 2024 — a loss that has left the entire Brown family reeling.
During the episode, Kody revisited the heartbreaking day he and Janelle had to make difficult decisions in the immediate aftermath. “I remember sitting there with Janelle and I was just going, ‘Hey, I really just want to take my boy home,’” Kody shared, reflecting on their conversation. “And so I said, ‘Let’s take him back to Wyoming and let’s bury him next to Grandma Cheryl.’ We just totally agreed that would be the right thing.”
Shortly after Garrison’s death, Kody and Janelle released a joint statement: “He was a bright spot in the lives of all who knew him. His loss will leave such a big hole in our lives that it takes our breath away,” they said. “We ask that you please respect our privacy and join us in honoring his memory.”
Kody Brown Reflects On Unresolved Conflict and Lingering Regret
Kody’s grief is compounded by the unresolved tensions that existed between him and Garrison prior to his death. Sitting by a fire with Robyn Brown, his only remaining wife, Kody shared the emotional toll that the strained relationship has taken on him. The rift, largely caused by disagreements over Kody’s strict COVID-19 rules, had led to ongoing friction between him and his sons with Janelle.
“It’s just heartbreaking,” Kody admitted. “Rob and I didn’t get a chance to really just make things right, just not being able to say goodbye.” Using Garrison’s given name, he added, “I just don’t know what to do with his death because it’s like I’ve got to do something different because I could have had more time with him, and I thought there would be more time.”
The weight of the missed opportunities and unspoken words has left Kody deeply unsettled. “Everybody thinks they got more time,” he reflected solemnly, recognizing a painful truth that now haunts him.
